Choleast (red
yeast rice extract) is an extract from Monascus
purpureus WENT, an organism grown on rice. After
centuries of use in traditional Chinese
medicine, it was discovered that red yeast rice
is a potent inhibitor of
3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase
(HMG-CoA reductase), the rate-limiting enzyme in
cholesterol synthesis. The fatty acids,
phytosterols, isoflavones, and proteins in
Choleast help maintain a healthful balance of
cholesterol and related blood lipids in the
body. Thorne combines red yeast rice extract
with coenzyme Q10.
Usage of Thorne Research Choleast (red yeast
rice):
Take 2-4 capsules twice a day
